This summer, I get to teach an art merit badge for my sons' Boy Scouts troop. To this end, I'm doing a few 'normal' pictures to show what realistic art is like. (And to placate the adults that might be a little unnerved by my regular art.)

Every so often, I get the urge to burn. *L* This is the Mexican dragon, Quetzalcoatl, burned on basswood and colored with wood stain pens and oil-based Sharpies.

This was done for ConDFW 2007. I woodburned this on a piece of mesquite from my hubs' scrap wood pile. I added color with wood stain pens and some Chinese coins as a counterweight.

Another picture done as a demo when I teach my art merit badge. Many adult scout leaders have their own groups and quite a few of them belong to the 'owl' patrol. One of the online art contests that I do is the Monthly Gargoyles Character. Every month there's a different theme and this was what I did for the 'Underwater Gargoyles' competition. It's based the frilled shark that was caught in Japan last summer, a fish too weird-looking in my opinion to just be a fish. I decided that it was a species of underwater gargoyle beast, used to guard their clan. The amazing thing was that I won with this!
